The Spirit of Mumbai

I guess Mumbai just gets it out of you. Sadly I get overawed by the place still. But then only 18 and yet to see the world. But then as I plan to go into corporate India, Bombay is the place to be. Glad to see that it incites so much pride. It'll sure be great to live there someday. :)
Cheers!

Udit.

Am Proud To Be An Indian……

Hey! I'm so proud to be an Indian as well. And its true. The IPL is again a very significant Indian contribution to world and society.
Talking about sledging. Firstly I totally back India, obviously cause its MY country, secondly: Aussie's have been the WORST sledgers in history. They've never been this seriously fined. Lets recount: The Damien Martyn-Rahul Dravid incident, the Glenn Mcgrath-Ramnaresh Sarwan incident. The only person who was severly fined was a guy who was so unimportant I cant even remember. But seriously. So many sledgers and no1 gets fined. One little Indian swear and there's RACISM all about. What about Hayden coming on the the radio and calling Harbhajan "an obnoxious weed". Yes THAT is allowed isn't it. Too many double standards. But then obviously the purse strings of the whole of the ICC are held my India so they couldn't really fine Harbhajan.
Anyway that isn't really the point. The point is that yes Indians still got Aussies to play for the IPl (though I think its more of a monetary thing than a thing of forgiving them). And they got payed pretty well too. But the best part was this: Indians bought Aussies :D That made my day!

HUmAn AuCtIoN

I think the IPL is quite a landmark in world cricket. The BCCI is essentially the Board of Cricket Control for India and does not have an responsibilities towards other sports. Though I have heard they do have some projects out. Moreover the auctioning wasn't done with the BCCI's money. It was done by the individual teams. So if at all anyone is to blame its the people who run these teams like Mukesh Ambani, SRK, Deccan Chronicle etc..
Also this format isn't actually a human auction. Its a talent auction. And it isn't new to the world. Its been going on in the Football leagues since ages. The IPL is just somewhat modelled on the EPL (English Premier League).
All said and done it gave me great pleasure to see Indians buying people from so many countries.. and even the old and retired coming out to play. I guess money talks... and in this case it says.. India is where cricket it at!

Why AYN RAND works... for me

Yes I have read the Anthem.. Not  We The Living. I did enjoy the Anthem. Simple yet precise.

Why AYN RAND works... for me

You know... I've read the Fountainhead atleast 8 times in 3 years. I love the book. If anything could come closer to God for me it'd be Howard Roark. I'm in love with the book. I'd give up reading anything for it.
But then one day a friend of mine said she loved the Atlas Shrugged but the Fountainhead never made sense to her. She bordered on hating it. So then I read the Atlas Shrugged. And, well... I hated it. I just couldn't comprehend the falling of the world. Why were all these people of character running away? Why were they disappearing? Why weren't they there to hold the world up? Why did they give up on the world to the likes of James?
Why wasn't John Galt there to inspire people, bring them on their best?
Why the defeatist attitude "This world is a goner, we'll make out own"?

I can relate to the underlying objectivism that runs in both the Fountainhead and the Atlas Shrugged. But I can't relate to the way it is relayed to in the Atlas Shrugged.
Maybe I'm scared of facing the book, like you've said in your write up.

And its funny. Cause my Dad and Granddad, both Ayn Rand followers love the Fountainhead but could never relate to the Atlas Shrugged. Wheras my physics professor in school another person I respect a lot loves the Atlas Shrugged and not the Fountainhead.

Could it be that in ways they relay the same things but in different ways? And it then depends on who relates to what.

I relate to Howard's fighting attitude, of refusing to lower his standards, refusint to settle for second best, refusing to compromise.

I guess its to each his/her own.

Needless to say, I believe Ayn Rand is a genius.
